OpenAI’s co-founder Greg Brockman is returning to the company after a three-month sabbatical, a boost to the leading artificial intelligence start-up following a series of senior departures in recent months.
Brockman, who was most recently OpenAI’s president, is returning in a technical role, OpenAI confirmed on Tuesday. He is still discussing the details of his new role with chief executive Sam Altman.
Brockman is a key Altman ally and was ousted from the board alongside the CEO during a shortlived boardroom coup last year. He is one of three of the original founding team of 11 remaining at the company, alongside Altman and Wojciech Zaremba.
In the past six months, several senior staff have left the San Francisco company, with some, such as chief technology officer Mira Murati, planning to launch their own companies, and others, including co-founder John Schulman, joining rivals, such as Anthropic.
Bloomberg first reported Brockman’s return.
