Despite the controversial nature of his films, fans were ecstatic when Andrew Garfield made his return as Spider-Man in No Way Home. And with the current trend of actors reprising their iconic roles growing larger by the day, the question on everyone’s mind is if Garfield is truly done with the MCU. When asked about this very topic at the Toronto International Film Festival, he admitted that the possibilities with the character are truly endless.
“I think it’s kind of endless, what can be done with that character,” Garfield told ScreenRant when at the festival. “Not that we should; not that we will, but you can always find another story to tell, yeah.”
It seems as though Andrew Garfield is hedging his bets a bit with that answer. The actor seems happy with where his time as Spider-Man ends, though words it in a way that he’s clearly open to a return in the MCU. He’s likely aware of any behind-the-scenes talks taking place, especially as reports suggest that Sony wants both him and Tobey Maguire back for future Spider-Man movies with Tom Holland.

With rumors suggesting Marvel wants to bring Tobey Maguire back to the MCU to have a prominent role in Avengers: Secret Wars, it’s likely that fans will see Andrew Garfield put on the Spider-Man tights at least one more time. However, any return beyond that is truly up in the air, especially as the audience’s fascination with the multiverse begins to wane.
One potential avenue is through Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse. Andrew Garfield had nothing but positive things to say about the last film in the franchise. Given he also had a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it cameo in the film, it’s possible that the sequel will expand his role into a full-fledged return as the beloved webhead outside of the MCU.
